The research, carried out by OnePoll asked 1,000 people aged 50 and above which elements of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral they would choose for themselves, if money were no object.
The survey has revealed that 26% of respondents would like to be buried or have their ashes scattered in a special place. Over a third of those aged 66 – 70 shared this opinion.
The survey further revealed that 18% of respondents would like themes reflecting their life, whilst 15% would like special transportation – for example a horse drawn hearse – or live music.
Other aspects of the Royal funeral that might be associated with a traditional funeral, such as pallbearers and personalised floral tributes, came in at 15% and 13% respectfully. Of the remaining respondents, just 11% said they would like to include the presence of pets and a procession or funeral cortege through the streets.
Queen Elizabeth’s funeral included many personal touches such as the presence of her beloved dogs and fell pony, Emma. The service also included multiple locations and a procession. It is not surprising that for some people, the broadcast of the Royal funeral made them think about their own funeral.
Anyone that has arranged a funeral on behalf of a loved one will understand the number of decisions that need to be made. Planning ahead for a funeral, for example by taking out a pre-paid funeral plan, can prompt these wishes to be thought about. Any special wishes you may have can be recorded as part of a pre-paid funeral plan, which can help to significantly reduce the pressure from loved ones when the time comes.
