A. Welch & Sons Ltd is a family-owned funeral directors that has proudly served the local communities of Herne Bay, Whitstable, Beltinge and Canterbury since 1948.

The independent firm was first established by Alfred Welch, a local coachman. Together with his five sons, Alfred carried out household removals, taxi work and the supply of horses, carriages and coffin bearers to Herne Bay’s local funeral directors. Alfred’s son, Harold also assisted one of the funeral directors with coffin making, and later with arranging and conducting funerals. After the Second World War, the family decided to undertake funeral arrangements in their own right and with the support of local families, opened a second branch in Canterbury in 1994.

Today, the business is managed by Tim Welch, Alfred’s great-grandson and a qualified funeral director and embalmer. Tim is supported by a professional team of staff and together they strive to provide the highest standards of funeral care to each family served.
